Group work in Children’s Literature


Group work in Children’s Literature Course

Children’s Literature is an important component that promotes a variety of children stories, movies, and books. This course provides a lot of opportunities to the students in acquire a valuable knowledge about children world. In this course, we are sharing group assignments about children stories such as “A new Life” and “The Shepherd Granddaughter”; these
assignments are helping build good communication among students and work as group efficiently. In addition, reading children books for example, “How Smudge Came” and “The Orphan Boy” is making the students participate in class discussion and leave feedback for personal opinions. Group work is also helping for raise the spirit of cooperation among students, it gives opportunity to all student to share their opinions about specific topic in order to present good result.  The teachers always ask student to work as group to develop communication skills which is contribute student success, and overall class success.

The character in the Children’s Literature

Characters in the Story
The characters in stories consider an important part in the Children’s literature. They can be the author, narrator, object, or other famous personality. The main character is acting along the story and many conflicts are affecting upon the roles within the plots. The character can be
static or dynamic along the story. The changes in the story make the reader wait for critical moments and feel enthusiastic to know what is happen later for the character. The role of character in children stories affects the children in many aspects for example, children become wearing the character’s appearance, copping attitude, and imitate speech. So it’s important to the writer to choose appropriate appearance and follow good thoughts. However, make the children imitate actions and repeat bad or good traits. Characters pass through multiple roles and events; therefore, readers evaluate the characters upon their achievements and development. Character enters world of challenges along the story and many events influence the major theme and developments. 

The Pictures in Children’s Books

The picture book help children understand what they are reading and simplified the conflict of
difficult words in easy way. The children can analyze the story easily through illustrate the pictures of the story. The pictures are powerful way to deliver the meaning and theme of the story to the reader. It draws characters, place, time, and graphics that imply plots and conflicts throughout the story. The writer use all the imagination and imagery to draw a powerful art. It can be complicated pictures due to the age of the kids that read the story or simple graphics that illustrate simple baby story. Some of the writers use little key words and multiple pictures to make the children think and imagine who the main character is and what the story is revolve around. For example, Margaret Wise writes a picture book  “Good night Moon”, and it illustrated by Clement Hurd, they use the pictures to show the actions of little child who describes many things around him. The pictures and words symbolize the story and share the theme of the story together.

The knowledge of children’s literature is expending through reading stories in class. During reading and watching children stories, I improve my listening and imagination skills. The concepts of reading books encourage me to communicate with other classmates, search for causes and effects, and know the consequences of character actions. Reading children books is building the ability of recognition the differences between adult and children stories. In class, we are reading children stories “How Smudge Came”, “Paper Bag Princess”, and “The Orphan Boy”. These stories are introducing children tales and their adventures in the world. The writer of story always use simple words and graphics to reach kids understanding. By reading stories, I am learning what the role of characters, setting, plot, and theme in the story. In addition, reading stories in class increase the communication skills widely, it leads students to discuss and leave feedback for the story. In addition, reading different types of genres increase the knowledge of knowing the types of stories for example, fiction, nonfiction, classic, family, and adventure. All these types are carrying interested tales and have fantastic pictures that attract children attention to the story.
