Bookstore visit-Chapters-Indigo

Bookstore VisitToday bookstores are playing an important role in children’s literature because they encourage kids and even adults to read and spend time on education outside the school. Chapters is a big bookstore that carries different types of children books that divide into a variety of genres. Bookstores provides up-to-date resources that have useful information for kids and bring the attention of the content to the customer. It target customers for personal use, education, environmental, or entertainment reasons. Most of the time, bookstores consider the source of reading either for adults or children. Chapters is targeting kids who love to read books; therefore, it sells books in-store and online. It also provides delivery services for customers. Books in Chapters are organized in multiple shelves, and generally presented in a professional look in order to encourage kids to read stories. The books are displayed in multiple groups depending on the age, quantity, and quality. They are also classified by the author’s last name and are marketed according to the new and used version.

Children in different ages are actively seeking the books that promote diversity and build the bridge between reality and their understanding. As I have seen in the bookstore, the books are arranged in shelves depending on the age of the kids such as (0-2), (2-6), (6-12), and over 12. They are organized by author last name which makes access to the book easier and faster.
During my visit to Chapters, the staff were very friendly. They helped me find how the children’s books were classified and how they were organized in the store. They were excited to share with me their experience with children’s books. They were using the computer efficiently in searching the name of books or stories. They also helped me to know how the books were sold and who the buyers were. The kids who are ages between 4 and 12 are considered the major number of customers. They often read books due to the encouragement of teachers or parents.
Teachers and parents encourage children to visit bookstores and read books due to the increase of internet usage in recent years which affects children visiting to bookstores. The advanced technology makes children and adults are becoming online acquisitions and buying and selling online books.
In the Chapters, the staff was very friendly to take pictures with me and share their experience with children. One of the staff told me “We are proud to be considered a partner of educators, librarians, parents and children as we work together to put the best books into the hands of book lovers in our communities.”
They told me that the books with colorful images, fantasy, and cartoon stories are selling very fast, and many different ages of kids are interested to buy and read them. I noticed also, that there are some recommended books that have interesting stories that target different ranges of ages. These stories contain fantasy graphics and have reasonable prices around $3 - 11.99 and $ 10.99-15.99. They are recommended to encourage kids to use these books as references in school or home. Some of them have animal stories, series stories and some have adventure tales. They are expensive due to the expenses of the publishing and cover pages like around $15-20. These books of graphics are best sellers in age of 6-12 because they are attractive without having magic and the writer combines historical fact and imagination to create story.

While in the store, I picked up a children’s book “Little Sweet Potato”. It has a simple story, but many valuable meanings for kids. I was enthusiastic to read it and the images of the cover page of the story attracted my attention to grab it and look inside. Children often see themselves in these stories, and have insights into the characters of the story. They may discover something about themselves, about their humanity. They may influenced by the conversation inside the story and start to copy the actions.

Literature gives all of us much more than pleasure. The reason behind my visit to Chapters is to discover why children are interested to read stories and the bookstore role in encouraging them to read. I have noticed that some stories have different types of genres such as fiction, realism, adventure, family, classic, religion, and non-fiction. They are selling in expensive prices due to the fees of the color images and cover pages. In return, the children react positively to these images. They may see into the mind of a character, or even the inspiration of the writer. Bookstore is designing easy access to everyone in the community and the librarians always recommend people to take care of things so that they last and can be used by many people. The idea of treating things as it important to us and for others can help build responsibility to take care of these books all the way. I really enjoyed my visit to the Chapters-Indigo and discover the world of children’s books.
